...it just doesn't seem to fit.
There are so many Christmas songs about praying and wishing for a white Christmas...and I really have no idea why!!! Maybe as a kid it is fun...you get to sled, make snowmen, have snowball fights and eat snowcream (as long as it's not yellow). We have quickly learned that as an adult, it becomes a lot of work.
First of all, nothing shuts down (we are not in Georgia anymore). We still have to get out and drive in the slushy, slippery stuff!!! Word to those braving the Omaha roads: be wary of dumb Southerners on the roads...we are still learning.
Second, before we can even get in our car to attempt the roads, we have to scrape the car and the driveway...correction, my sweet husband scrapes the car and driveway. We also have to clear a path for our mail carriers who brave these elements on foot in our neighborhood.
Third, we are supposed to be prepared at anytime for a huge winter storm. You need firewood or a generator in case power goes out, jugs of water, and always have your cell phone charged.
So needless to say, snow is no longer the fun white stuff that we wished for as a kid, but the cold, slushy mess that makes a quick run to grocery store your day's big event.
We are slowly becoming Midwesterners and learning to live in the snow is just a part of life here. Surprisingly, Micah is loving being outside shoveling, taking Kofi on walks in 20 degree weather, and taking our Subaru on test drives just to see how it handles the roads. It is just our first few weeks of the stuff, so come February and March I will let you know whether his feelings are still the same.
For me, there are some nice things about snow...it makes for a beautiful scene and great pictures...enjoy!!!
